We were. We are. We will be. This title introduces Hinojosa’s recently published Sustainability Report 2022, providing a comprehensive overview of our strategy and initiatives aimed at creating a positive environmental impact. The report emphasizes our focus and efforts on what we term “the three Ps of sustainability”: the planet, people, and the spirit of progress. This strategic commitment, tied to our business growth, propels us forward during a crucial period of growth and international expansion.

Comprising data-driven insights and contributions from members of the Hinojosa team and ecosystem, the report invites all stakeholders and those interested in sustainable packaging to explore our achievements in decarbonisation, circular economy, energy, waste and raw material management, and areas related to innovation, health and safety, and talent development.

In 2022, we celebrated our 75th anniversary, achieved 820 million in net sales, launched Hinojosa Packaging Foodservice, joined the Spanish Global Compact Network, and became the first packaging company certified for its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. We also received awards for the innovative design of some our products, with our portfolio of agriculture, logistics, e-commerce, and end consumption solutions continually expanding and evolving, aligning with customer needs and a market increasingly focused on sustainability.

Furthermore, we made significant progress in decarbonistion, reducing our CO2 emissions by 14.4% – in line with European climate neutrality targets for 2050 – and increased our renewable energy usage by 11.35% compared to the previous year, thanks to the biomass boilers in our paper mills coming fully online.

In terms of the circular economy, we achieved a waste recovery rate of over 93%, reusing waste as raw material in the value chain. In talent development, we ran 39,700 hours of training.

These are just a few of the most important milestones included in this report, which shed light on a job well done while warning us of the importance of keeping our guard up to continue improving in all areas, without ever losing the entrepreneurial spirit with which we were founded.

Today, we bear the responsibility and opportunity to uphold this legacy and project ourselves into the next 75 years. Let’s continue this journey together
