Our planet's oceans are awash with 170 trillion pieces of plastic. Experts reckon that, if you were to tally it up, the figure would equate to 21,000 items of waste per inhabitant. To avoid reaching 200 trillion, sustainable packaging must take centre stage as the primary solution to oust single-use plastic packaging.

We don’t just eat and drink from plastic containers; we ingest plastic itself. According to United Nations data, 90% of bottled water and 83% of tap water contain plastic particles. Moreover, many of the fish that end up on our tables consume plastics, notably microplastics. Between eating and drinking, we consume an average of 21 grams of plastic a month.

Amid an ongoing environmental crisis, where waste disposal poses a major concern in the short term, plastic accounts for 85% of the materials suffocating our seas

Considering the data, the situation calls for change, and citizens as well as governments, especially within the EU, have been voicing their concerns and the urgent nature of reforms for years. From the corporate angle, however, the commitment needs to be even more decisive. Single-use plastics, although seemingly on the brink of extinction, require an alternative. Sustainable packaging solutions are poised to be the key players in both the current and future scenarios.

At Hinojosa Packaging Group we are aware of this need and the challenge posed by new legislation where every step in the value chain has to be sustainable. From the factory to the supermarket, from each consumer’s pantry to the recycling bin. Always through the lens of innovation, for years we have been making significant advancements in the development of sustainable packaging systems that fully guarantee a replacement for other alternatives that are more harmful to the planet.

Products that are sustainable. And efficient too

Leveraging innovation and sustainability, we are committed to creating new products that make a difference in consumption, both in terms of the environment and the consumer experience. It’s not just about offering an alternative to single-use plastic but about providing greater convenience without compromising an ounce of our clients’ efficiency.

360 Green Packaging

One of Hinojosa’s major investments in the food sector is in the primary packaging segment: 360 Green Packaging. Designed for direct contact with fresh foods, Halopack and Sumbox are two specific alternatives to the conventional use of disposable plastic packaging. They are the alternative demanded by the customers and consumers of today for ready meals, meat, sausages, cheese and frozen or fresh fish.

Ecogrip

A 100% recycled, recyclable, and fully biodegradable packaging solution that does away with the conventional heat-shrink film used for transporting multiple bottles. Ecogrip is crafted to be flexible and practical, boasting the main advantage that the number of bottles, their type, or cap do not matter.

Heat-sealable punnets

With our heat-sealable cardboard punnets we ensure the freshness and taste of fruits and vegetables are preserved in sustainable packaging. Thanks to Fruit Pack or Barket, two containers already on the market and extensively tested in the retail sector, you can eliminate up to 95% of plastic.

Foodservice

Our foodservice includes 100% recyclable packaging designed for the consumption of drinks and ready meals. The three foodservice product ranges (Beverage, Dairy, and FoodContainer) are made from 100% recyclable paper and seamlessly adapt to the distribution of pre-prepared beverages and foods, as well as those ready for preparation.

Bag in Box

Bag in Box (BIB) is a comprehensive packaging solution comprising a sturdy plastic bag inserted into a cardboard box. This bag is specifically designed to hold different liquids (wine, oil, juices, etc.) and protect them from oxidation and light. Besides prolonging shelf life, a BIB also protects against breakages and impacts, while also offering significant cost savings by removing the need for bottles, labels, caps, seals, capsules, or shipping boxes.

Octabox

Octabox is a corrugated cardboard container for 220-litre aseptic bags of fruit concentrates. Made from paper produced from recycled materials, it’s far more sustainable than traditional packaging of this type. It stands out for its lightness, strength, ease of assembly and also contributes to reducing carbon footprints.

Among its characteristics, its adaptability also stands out, as it can be stacked up to four levels. We have even developed an automatic system for transferring the bag from a metal drum to an Octabox at no additional cost to the manufacturer.
