Hinojosa Packaging Group continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and positive impact. Our latest milestone has been the validation by SBTi (Science Based Target initiative) of our emission reduction targets.
With the firm intention of improving our impact on the environment and addressing the climate emergency, at Hinojosa we have set a path to sustainably reduce our carbon footprint and achieve the Net-Zero Standard by 2050, which would mean a 90% reduction in our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, taking 2020 as a reference year.
Hinojosa has already been on this ambitious roadmap for a long time. Since 2020, several projects linked to the reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been implemented, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels or the implementation of biomass boilers. Initiatives such as the installation of electric charging stations or the implementation of megatrucks have also been pursued to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
The first finish line is set for 2028, when Hinojosa is committed to ensuring that 80% of the emissions from purchased goods and services also have SBTi targets. This drives decarbonisation along the entire value chain, from suppliers to customers. By 2030, in addition to the commitment to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% and Scope 3 emissions by 42%, Hinojosa aims to ensure that 100% of the electricity consumed comes from renewable sources. With all these important steps we are pursuing a very clear goal: to achieve Net-Zero Standard by 2050 and to continue to care for the planet and the environment.
