In the film “The Devil Wears Prada”, Anne Hathaway roams the streets of New York in search of a takeaway coffee, crossing roads without looking, and answering calls in the middle of a city overwhelmed by noise, cars, and haste. Released in the 2000s, this film predicted a trend that has now fully taken root in our lives. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, the ways that we consume shift to keep pace with the rapid movements of people who, like Hathaway’s character, are always on their way somewhere, coffee in hand. It is no use to ignore this consumer trend: the market trend is such that two-thirds of revenue from fast-food restaurants is generated by delivery and takeaway.

The takeaway trend is complemented by another popular one: delivery. The doorbell rings. You open your door, dressed in slippers and a robe, and receive your order without stepping outside: food from a restaurant, the weekly shop, or a parcel from a brand name. This scenario has become part of our everyday life, a routine we’ve built around online shopping. The delivery movement became a full part of our lives during the pandemic, and since 2020, the number of customers ordering to their homes once a week or more has increased by 114% in Europe, according to a study by Kantar.
The cornerstone of both trends is packaging, which has enabled the progress and transformation of the food industry. Sustainable packaging made of paper and cardboard has emerged as the best option for a cosmopolitan lifestyle, a key part of which is taking coffee and any type of food from a café to the office, from a restaurant to home. Furthermore, this type of takeaway packaging also makes it possible to save food that would have been discarded from restaurant meals, leading to a synergy of re-use, sustainability and positive impact.
Order it to go, but without harming the planet
One of the risks associated with the delivery and foodservice trends is the potential for packaging to become waste and harm the environment. That’s why at Hinojosa we’ve developed a line of foodservice packaging for prepared foods that is both 100% recyclable and planet-friendly. Ordering to go? No problem. Choosing innovative packaging that doesn’t damage the planet? Absolutely.
With this product range, we aim to support other businesses in their efforts to promote more sustainable consumption and facilitate this integration of responsibility in a way that’s easy, competitive, and strategic. Keeping pace with market trends, in 2023, we launched Hinojosa Packaging Foodservice, our first plant solely focused on creating packaging solutions for the catering, delivery, and foodservice sectors. This facility produces three specialised product lines: our range Beberage for hot and cold beverages, Dairy for dairy items like yoghurts and ice cream Foodcontainer and for ready meals.

Sustainability is at the core of the features of this product line. This type of packaging includes a barrier, meaning that it can carry liquids, it is made from 100% recyclable paper, it can be personalised and it comes with a compostability certification.
Perhaps the only thing missing from Anne Hathaway’s character, a trendsetter in both fashion and packaging, was ensuring that the coffee she was buying came in sustainable packaging.
