Wine packaging must meet a series of design and manufacturing criteria, particularly considering that we are discussing a product often regarded as gourmet or luxury.

This type of packaging necessitates bespoke manufacturing, making it challenging to adhere to specific standards. However, one of the general rules is finding the ideal balance between the safety of the contents (the wine), brand care, and the information conveyed to the consumer.

Perfect packaging has to be identified for each type of wine

A prime example of how perfect packaging can differ significantly between wine types is evident in our portfolio at Hinojosa. Our experts have developed solutions ranging from premium cases for gourmet brands to boxes designed primarily to safeguard bottles during transportation.

Additionally, we offer displays and other specific solutions showcasing the versatility of this topic. For instance, it is feasible to package wine in a Bag in Box, a packaging consisting of a cardboard box containing a plastic bag, which serves to protect the liquid inside. This means that the wine is shielded from sunlight, breakage, and impacts.

To determine the ideal packaging for a wine brand, Hinojosa’s expert team works alongside clients to consider aspects like:

  • The bottle material, as glass requires different protection compared to plastic.
  • The product category: fine wines logically demand features that might be unnecessary for wines intended for regular supermarket shelves. This is why we offer the premium cases already mentioned, developed thanks to our expertise
  • How will this wine be transported? Packing boxes on pallets is not the same as using other transportation methods. There are also different alternatives for shipping wine bottles via e-commerce
  • What information should be conveyed to the wine buyer? Nowadays it is possible to print any message the customer wants on labels and product packaging. This can range from consumption recommendations to printing a case where brand image and customer-centric messages take precedence. To achieve this, Point of Purchase displays can be used, serving as effective marketing tools to attract consumer attention in an aisle filled with choices.

For personalisation, we use state-of-the-art printing techniques

It is indisputable that the packaging chosen for wine must convey numerous messages. In many cases it’s not just about the bottle but also its surroundings. Purchasing certain brands is an end-to-end experience, significantly influenced by the packaging. To achieve the desired standard, we primarily employ three printing methods: offset, flexography and digital printing

Offset

Ideal for creating an exceptionally impactful product. Using conventional and UVI inks on all types of board results in a clearer and sharper image. This is particularly suited for packaging that includes photographs.

Flexography

Our high-end flexo post-printing process achieves outstanding colour registration accuracy. We use water-based inks that dry quickly, facilitating a rapid printing rate. This technique is recommended for large-scale runs where cost-effectiveness and quality are paramount.

In contrast, high-level flexo pre-printing involves printing directly onto paper reels. This allows for superior print quality due to the smoothness of the surface.

Digital printing

Undoubtedly, digital printing represents one of the most advanced technologies developed to date. It eliminates cliché costs, reduces turnaround times, and provides the flexibility required for products like wine. Furthermore, we can perform actual colour tests using the machine itself to ensure that every box or case is perfectly aligned with the design specifications.
